K.S.Chitra Biography

Krishnan Nair Shantakumari Chithra, later became popular as K. S. Chithra in Indian play back singing. And she is fondly referred to as Chinna Kuyil (little Nightingale) and simply called as Chithra. By origin, K.S Chitra hails from Kerala and she has sung Indian classical, devotional, and popular music. She has sung in a number of Indian languages as well as Urdu, Latin, Arabic, Sinhalese and English.

 In her singing career, K.S. Chitra has recorded more than 25,000 Songs for various films and albums. She has received six National Film Awards, six Filmfare Awards (South) and 32 different state film awards. Apart from that, She got all the four south Indian state film awards. To her honor, she received civilian award ‘Padma Shri’ in 2005. She is best fit to sing duets with k.J yesudas and Balu.

Chitra was Born on 27 July 1963 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Basically, she belongs to the family of musicians. Her father, the late Krishnan Nair, was her first music teacher. Her elder sister K. S. Beena and her younger brother Mano are also playback singers. Initially, Chithra under went training in Carnatic music from Dr. K. Omanakutty. And she passed B.A. in music with first class and third rank from the University of Kerala. Later, she completed a master’s degree in music.
