She first drew the attention of the film makers when she appeared in the music video “Thirakti Kyun Hawa”. She wanted to become a good dancer. In the meanwhile she got an acting opportunity in Tollywood. But,she could not say ‘no’to the leading role offer in the movie ‘Ishtham’. It was her debut movie released in 2001. But, it was not so successful. Later, she got a recognition with the successful movie ‘Santhosham’ released in 2002.It was a big commercial hit.
Kanthaswamy (2009-Tamil),Pokkiri Raja (2010-Malayalam)  were Commercially hit movies which made her one of the big stars. Shriya was paired with Rajinikanth in the movie ‘Sivaji’ released in 2007. It recorded a block buster at the box office. also, the Hindi film ‘Awarapan’released in 2007 brought her praise for the best performance.
