The Indian film actress and model,Riya Sens birth name is Riya Dev Varma.Her forefathers belong to royal family. And hers is a family of actors with her maternal grand mother Suchitra Sen, her mother Moon moon Sen and her sister Raima Sen. Personal life and family

Riya Sen is 1981 Born Indian actress. Her birth day and birth place are 24th January and Kolkata respectively. Riya is the daughter of Moon Moon Sen and grand daughter of Suchitra Sen who were well-known former actresses. She has one sibling named Raima Sen and she is also an actress.

Riya Sen lived with her family before she left for Mumbai. Basically, Riya belongs to a royal family. Her father Bharat Dev Varma is a member of the royal family of Tripura. Her paternal grandmother, Ila Devi, was the princess of Cooch Behar, whose younger sister Gayatri Devi was the Maharani of Jaipur.

 

Education On Riya Sen Profile

Riya completed her schooling at Loreto House and Rani Birla Girls’ College in Kolkata. Thereafter, she studied at the National Institute of Fashion Technology.
And,she took to jewellery-designing as a Pastime. She does designing of most of the clothes that she wears in films and commercials. Riya has been training in Kathak under Vijayshree Chaudhury . She has trained in kickboxing and  belly dancing  as well.

 

  Cine career | Debut Film 

  Riya Sen profile got to become with her  entry in to films. Riya stepped in to the film industry through a few modelling assignments. At that time, she used to commute between Mumbai and Kolkata.And the bus or train was only her method of transport during her early career. After getting breakthrough in the films , she moved to Mumbai.

Riya Sena first acted as a child artist in the film ‘Vishkanya’ in 1991. When Riya Sen was 19, she did Tamil film Bharathiraja’s ,’Taj Mahal’ released in 2000. But it failed at the box -office. Later she made her Bollywood film debut in ‘Love You Hamesha’, opposite actor Akshaye Khanna. however, the film got stalled for some reasons. Subsequently, she got an opportunity in N. Chandra’s ‘Style’ in 2001. This was her Hindi debut film and the low-budget sex comedy was the first commercial success.

She next acted in the film ‘Jhankaar Beats‘. She performed a small and glamorous role alongside Shayan Munshia. Hinglish, a mixture of Hindi and English.In 2005, she appeared in Shaadi No. 1, which had no female lead. This comedy, based on the theme of modern marriage, was directed by David Dhawan.

 Item Numbers

In spite of the hit films like ‘Style’ and ‘Jhankar’ most of her later films did not perform well at the box-office. While many of her appearances have been item numbers and cameos, few of her leading roles have been in low-budget films.

Though she had small roles ‘in Dil Vil Pyar Vyar’ (2002), Qayamat (2003) and Plan (2004), film makers focused an attention to her. Especially the one in ‘Qayamat‘ that featured her in a bubble-bath. Apart from this, she performed another item number in ‘James’  released in 2005.  Furthermore, she took part in a dance number for Sajid Khan’s Heyy Babyy (2007) that featured several mainstream Bollywood actresses.

   Non-Hindi Films On Riya Sen Profile

Besides Hindi films,Riya made her appearance in Bengali, Tamil,Telugu, Malayalam and English films. Her film career started in the Tamil films like Bharathi Raja’s ‘Taj Mahal’, and Manoj Bhatnaghar’s ‘Good Luck’. But her ill-luck, Both the films did not perform well commercially. Later she made an appearance in Tamil in a dance number for N. Maharajan’s ‘Arasatchi’.

English Debut On Riya Sen Profile

Riya debuted in English language movie ‘It Was Raining That Night, a remake of the Bengali film ‘Hei Brishtir Raat’.

Her first Malayalam film was Santhosh Sivan’s ‘Ananthabhadram’ which became most successful. It won five Kerala State Film Awards.  And it made the movie buffs to show interest towards Riya Sen profile. She made her Telugu Debut with Nenu Meeku Telusa…?, in which she was starred opposite Manoj Manchu.

In 2012 Sen won the Star Guide Award as best actress for her performance in ‘Noukadubi’.
